Scientism

Scientism is the view that the methods and knowledge of the natural sciences are the most reliable, or perhaps the only genuinely reliable, means of acquiring knowledge about reality.

In its stronger form, scientism holds that questions which cannot in principle be answered by empirical science---including questions about morality, meaning, value or religion---are not genuine matters of knowledge at all.

Critics argue that this claim is itself philosophical rather than scientific, and that science depends upon concepts such as logic, reason, mathematics and ethical assumptions that cannot themselves be established by scientific experiment.
